OT Good news, Kinda Sorta

OT Good news, Kinda Sorta - 01/31/11 09:11 PM

First off I want to thank EVERYONE for their thoughts and prayers for Patty. It means a lot to BOTH of us. You all DO have a pack mindset, when one member of the pack is sick/hurt the others tend to them. THANK YOU!

Ok, called the Doctor today and told the lady on the phone what we were told. She was totally blown away and expressed much sympathy and apologies for what/how it was told to us. She then gave us over to the Doctors Nurse and she said: Patty is BORDERLINE renal failure. They told her to come off the Metformin because can/does mess with the Kidneys and that if she stayed on it her Kidneys WOULD fail. They told her to do her best with diet to control the Diabetes but that IF her blood sugar level got to 150 or above to call them. They also told her that if she noticed any other changes to let them know, ref the shaking, urination etc.

She is still in hot water, but at least now it's not boiling and it has (we pray) a chance to turn to room temperature. They said that they are hoping the by taking her off the Metformin it will "give her kidneys a break" and they can repair themselves at least as much as they can. Like I said, don't really know what this means for the long haul but it is at least looking up some for now. BUT she still has the birth defect with her Kidneys to deal with and the Chronic Kidney/bladder infections.
At least she sees her Urologist AND the Endocrinologist both next month. So please keep thinking of us as we do you, and again THANK YOU ALL!

Prayer and positive attitude, my friend, will do wonders. Thanks for letting us know the good news.

I'm glad it was just a miscommunication. Hopefully they'll figure out what the main problem is and get a treatment figured out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

Re: OT Good news, Kinda Sorta - 02/01/11 05:07 AM

Thank you EVERYBODY for your well wishes and prayers. We still have a ways to go, and it still may go south, but at least for now, she's maintaining and they said If they can keep her just a bit better she can function for quite a while. I guess only time will tell. Hopefully they can get rid of this CHRONIC kidney/bladder infection she has, that I would think should help.

Again thank you each and every one, you have helped ME a lot. As I originally said, she was taking it better than I was at first.

Re: OT Good news, Kinda Sorta - 02/15/11 05:44 AM

UPDATE 2/14/11

Ok Got back from the Dr. awhile back and it appears as if Patty MAY have Pheochromocytoma. Whatta ya mean you don't know what that is. Well REALLY long story short, it's something about tumors on or in the Adrenal gland/glands. She does have kidney failure as well. He said something about 24 and hers were at 28 and really aren't THAT bad but bear watching. He had set her up with at a specialist/clinic in St. Louis first week in april. They have faxed all the test results from here up there and IF they need to they will call her back from St. Louis with an earlier appointment. SO, it's not good news, but it IS news! At least now maybe they can figure out something to actually help her.

Again guys, thank you ALL for your patience in this, my therapy of sorts, and all the thoughts and prayers you have offered up for Patty and myself.

Re: OT Good news, Kinda Sorta - 02/15/11 05:58 AM

IF there are tumor/s we have heard that it is a very dangerous operation to remove them. The Doctor here is being cautious. He says he wants to MAKE SURE that the test results are correct or at least close enough in the ball park. He says they deal with this sort of problem at the place he is sending her and they DO know how to correctly run the tests and can also do ultrasound and X-rays and any other kinds of tests that might prove necessary. Are we scared? You betcha! But we are also hopeful. Now at least there is something indicated that is known, not a well we're not sure..... type response. At least There IS something that can be done for this.
