What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife?

What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife? - 03/31/07 05:53 AM

Is it the Dogfather Combat Grade? It is the biggest and baddest.

It could be the Street Scrapper 4 as it is the only INFI and had the most hype.
It also had the quickest sell out.

The Scrapper 6 is the first scrapper for a reason but the S6LE is the only LE so far.

The Dumpster Mutt is a great all around user and more practical for EDC than the S6

Gonna wait and see until I get my paws on the DM...

As much as I like my Scrapper 6, the Dogfather defines the Scrapyard genre in so many ways.

Can't get much better than the DF guys - I'm realy excited about the DM too though. I have a feeling that I'll still favor the DF - I'm a chopper man!

I was not sure until I thought about it but the DF is the epitome of the Scrapyard. So far my SS4 is my favorite knife but a real scrapper is S7 and big and bad not small and practical.

I'm going to have to go with the DF. Its one bad knife. I would EDC it if I could, but it doesn't seem appropriate for office carry.

I voted DF. It's my favorite knife so far but I dont have the DM yet.

You'd have to switch to modified cargo pants to carry a DF

I found a Scrapper 6 and Scrapper 6 LE on the secondary market. Both are great but the heft of the DF is security and what a great feeling!

Who picked the S6 and the SS4? I would love to hear your reasons?

DogFather. No doubt.

I voted Scrapper 6. And my second choice would have been the SS4 with the DF running third and the dumpster mutt comming in 4th.

I tend to look at my knives as bushcraft/wilderness blades.

The scrapper 6 is my favorite all around multipurpose do everything knife. There isn't much I cannot do with it. It doesn't excell at any one thing but it does most everything pretty decently. It's currently my go to blade and sits in a Spec-Ops survival sheath. The Scrapper 7 may replace the scrapper 6 when it comes out.

The SS4 is a very practical blade size. I find that I use it for a lot of everyday task. It's an easy blade to manipulate and it earns a lot of use from me. Infi, in my opinion is perfect for knives like these. However, since it smaller it's uses get more specific.

The Dogfather is a beast of a blade. It specalizes in chopping. And while there's nothing wrong with a pure chopper it takes a hit in other areas because of its size and heft. This blade is best paired with the SS4 or similar blade.

The dumpster mutt is something that will likely sit in my sock drawer. I'm sure that it's a good knife. However, it really doesn't do it for me in the way that the Scrapper 6 or SS4 do. I really ordered one to complete my collection.

Re: What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife? - 03/31/07 03:23 PM

I chose the Dog Father because it IS the biggest. It is like the Busse Battle Mistress of Scrap Yard Knives, only I like it better. Can't wait for the DFLE.
I am excited about the DM. What I would like is a SS4. Those just look perfect for EDC.

Re: What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife? - 03/31/07 06:00 PM

I chose the DF because I felt it was the most unique offering to date. My mindset was "If Scrapyard had only produced one blade, which blade would have best exemplified Scrapyard as the brand of a leading knife company".

The SS4 is neat but a number of 4" EDC knives have already been done in INFI.

I also agree that the Scrapper 6 is the best all arounder. I love the blade shape, thickness, balance, and Res-C handles. Yet there are other good knives with similar blade shapes and variations of rubber handles.

For me that leaves the Dogfather as the defining blade. The perfect big knife steel (SR-77), combined with a great blade shape, the perfect chopper handle, all at an incredible price point when combined says to me "the DF is the one".

I went for the S6 as it is the best all-rounder.. The DF is so big you may decide to leave it at camp when you go look at the view from the nearby hill- then need it desperately, the S6 is small and light enough to edc but big and tough enough to do almost anything.

The ultimate has to be able to do everything pretty well and the S6 beats the DF for 'versatile' hands down.

Re: What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife? - 04/02/07 04:24 AM

some good answers up there, hehe Mutt got 4 votes and it hasn't even shipped yet!

For me it is Dog Father.

Because I have used it the most, chopped/batoned all kinds of wood, just abused it from day one. I have bonded with it. I know what it can do. And when i hold it, feel its reassuring heft, see all the character marks i've put on the coating, and its gleaming edge telling me it's ready for much more!

..Dog Father is the Ultimate ScrapYard knife to me!

I only have one Scrap Yard (used to have a Scrapper 4) but I'd have to say the DF has to be at the top. I'll let you know after I score a Mutt but am sure the DF will still be top dog.

Re: What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife? - 04/02/07 04:55 AM

Ted made some good points, if I meant ultimate as in the one I get the most use out of it would be the SS4 undoubtedly and it is made of the ultimate steel.
I think the D Mutt is going to be more usefull than most people think. It should do pretty much everything a S6 does but the inch less makes it much easier to carry. It really is the most knife you can comfortably wear.

SS-4 for the INFI and EDC ability.

Peace.

O.K. That's it. I'm going out to make a fire with the DF. Time to split some wood. A bit overkill for the job but still fun fun fun.

Re: What is the Ultimate Scrapyard knife? - 04/02/07 05:19 AM

Well it appears that the idea of ultimate is as diversified as each of the Dogs in the yard. This is as it should be because we all have our own set of ideas, circumstances, uses and environmental settings in which we use our blades. I have collected and carried the SHBM and SHBA in the field for years, but with the performance: cost ratio of the SYK line, I've used my DF almost exclusively for my heavier use needs without any regret and it has met the challenge without a hitch. The SS4s blade profile is just enough different from my SHBA that I haven't switched but I love the mudder handle. I look forward to the smaller SYK blade releases. The reasonable cost and high performance of the SYK future line is bound to change the USER status for a lot of collectors and users. Based on my use and abuse pattern my vote for the ultimate SYK has got to go to the BIG DOG - the CG Dogfather.

Ultimate? That depends on what your mission is. Today we got "temporarily disoriented". I took out my compass and blazed a trail through the thick stuff with DF. In all honesty, a machete or RTAK would have worked better, but the DF got the job done. Try that with a little bitty knife!
