What pack do you like?

What pack do you like? - 03/17/13 12:06 AM

Thinking about the 5.11 Rush 24 or the Maxped Vulture II or Falcon II. Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, or input? Using it for hikes, overnights, general EDC.

I have a 5.11 MOAB 10 that I've been using for the last 4 weeks. Fantastic! Added some pouches to it and it does what I want around town. Great travel bag. Only downside is the one shoulder carry, while making it easy to access whatever I need to, hurts my lower back after a while--especially if it's fully loaded.

Also looking at the Maxped Jumbo for a hunting pack and maybe the Fatboy for general around town carry when I don't need to bring a laptop and all the fixin's with me. Anyone have experience with either? Love 'em or hate 'em? Other recommendations?

Do you need molle? I found I ended up never using the molle or strapping too much gear on. For a general use pack / extended weekender I like the Kelty Redwing 50. Very durable and comfy. Hiking packs have always treated me better than military packs.

I have a Badlands Pursuit hunting pack. I really like it, but I got it for bow hunting.

Depending on what I need to have with me, I carry either the Maxpedition Monsoon or the Condor II everyday.

At times, I wish I had the Vulture when I just need a bit more room. But, the Condor is a great size for daily. My Macbook Pro fits nicely with plenty of room for other junk.

Badlands 2200, and a BlackHawk cyclone. Both seems to be holding up really well

DT, don't forget the 511 push pack. Just a bit larger than the fat boy, but make sure it will hold what you want for edc. The side pouches on mine will hold a 1 liter bottle but they pooch out into the main compartment. A tall narrow bottle like the wally world 25 oz ones fit nice.

Just got a "Super Falcon" on order. Found a large Maxped distributor here--called Magforce in Taiwan. The Super Falcon is like the Falcon II only about 2x the size. The Falcon seemed just a little too small for my purposes. Looking at getting a lot of pouches before I leave. Any suggestions? They've got just about anything you can imagine and then some.

DT, the only must have pouch for me is an IFAK. I prefer something that opens quickly with one hand and the contents can be ripped out easily. I want to be able to throw the entire contents on the deck and work from there.

Curious, how much is a Super Falson?

130 give or take. Honestly can't tell how big it is other than they said it was the biggest pack. Need one?

I appreciate the offer, but I would have to know the liters/ cubic inches first. I don't want a huge pack without a frame.

I like the tad gear fast pack lightspeed for a military style daypack. I use that a lot for single day hikes.

For multiple-day hunting trips, the eberlestock dragonfly is amazing. I can pack everything I need and the straps and internal frame keep me nimble with 50+ pounds on my back.

For quick predator hunts when I need minimal gear (because I'm never too far from my truck), I use a 1st Gen maxped condor.

For really short, quick hikes, I take 1st gen camel back outlaw. That can carry my water, rain gear, fak other bare minimum survival gear.

The maxped seems well built, but the straps limit the amount you can carry comfortably.

I'll let ya know tomorrow. It seems about the same size as the 5.11 rush 24. Guess I'll find out

Better to have and not need than need and not have. I've found it really useful on my MOAB and I've found several pouches that I like and use. I've got a 5-11 attached to the MOLLE strips on my BOB and I've got a place in mind on the Jumbo for my War Dog. I just like gadgets and am fascinated by organization since it so often eludes me
