My kind of 12g - 04/16/14 08:18 PM

Well I finally broke down and got a shotgun, and as most of you know I am a touch off so it couldn't be any old shotty so I picked this one.

And of course as many tell me I just can't leave well enough alone, so this is what she looks like after 45 min of ownership (35 min drive). lol

I seems well put together and a quality piece. We are in the midst of another blizzard so I haven't shot it at all yet but I will update when I do.

Nice shotgun. The AR platform is awesome, I love it. I have a Saiga that I did a Tromix type conversion on. A 12 guage with a 25 round drum is a thing of awe.

Re: My kind of 12g - 04/20/14 06:46 AM

sorry it took me a while to get back on this.
It is a RAAC MKA1919XN It looks and most of the op controls are AR but the internals are Remington 1100 so it is super easy to work on and reliable out of the box.
It is capable of running all 2 3/4 and 3 inch 12 gauge both high and low brass.
It comes with 3 chokes(cylinder, modified and full) 2 5rd mags and an "instruction manual" (actually its not bad except for the 15 pages of warnings - OK I get it its a gun and dangerous.)

Lol I know that randy I was just wondering is it just the bolt and gas system but the reciver is designed to fit or is there more parts similarities than that?
Posted By: greaser

Re: My kind of 12g - 04/21/14 09:09 AM

Nope just the bolt, gas system, and barrel are modeled after the 1100 the rest is all MKA.

2500.....peanuts? Please don't say dollars or I'll just have to cry myself to sleep tonight...

Re: My kind of 12g - 05/07/14 03:27 PM

I can't imagine how off the balance is on that thing. I've had quite a few extended magazine shotguns, and always found them "nose heavy" and "hard to get on point quick".

As a result, my Benelli M1 Super 90 has a 1 round extension.

If I need more "firepower" I won't be grabbing a shotgun...it'll be my FN SCAR.

My shotgun is for home defense against the meth-addict looking for drug money or the coyote looking at my chickens. For anything else I'm grabbing either my 5.56 or 7.62 FN Scar.

(Yes, I have both calibers and they are awesome).

Re: My kind of 12g - 05/07/14 10:28 PM

What do you think of the scar H vs the LMT MWS .308?
Posted By: Endeavour Morse

Re: My kind of 12g - 05/08/14 05:36 PM

The Scar was selected after extensive testing for issue to SOCOM. The MWS is a specialty weapon for distance precision.

Its like comparing a Ford Mustang to a Ford F150. They serve really different purposes.

I don't care for highly specialized rifles. I prefer more "specialized infantry rifles". The SCAR-H with a proper optic fits this role well, and can do most everything a "dedicated marksman's rifle" can do out to about 600 yards.

Everyone likes to post pictures of 3 shot groups that are clustered into a single ragged hole. These are bench fired clusters under ideal conditions, and frankly if you want to prove a rifle's (or your) ability show me ten FIVE shot groups.

Real world use is totally different than internet hype.

In applications beyond punching paper on a sunny day at the range there are many variables that make it nearly impossible to capitalize on a sniper rifle system (without having been trained as a Scout Sniper)....

1) You almost never have a stable platform. Shooting is often unexpected / snap unless sniping.

2) You have no control over the weather.

3) You're probably shooting from a fouled bore. It might not just be powder residue.

In the end, the SCAR has a free-floated hammer forged barrel and AR type bolt lugs. This gives plenty of accuracy for your above average shooter. This is especially true with a Geiselle Super Scar Trigger. I have one in my Heavy, and will probably put one in the Light.

My Scar Heavy has a Trijicon TA-11H G308 ACOG.
My Scar Light has a Trijicon TA-31 RSR ACOG.

I don't like DI systems for anything other than range toys. In fact, I just shipped both of my Colt LE901-16S (the 308 Modular AR) to a dealer a few weeks ago.

I'll keep a Colt AR, because I've continuously owned AR15s since 1984. However, my serious go-to gun is a SCAR.

Re: My kind of 12g - 05/08/14 08:31 PM

Interesting.
I've debated mws vs scar for a while. What do you think about the scars poly lower?
I kinda thought the sp901 didn't hit the potential they claimed it would.

Actually Its not bad at all ballence wise. I used it for trap shooting tuesday my first time shooting at a moving target with a shootgun and managed to hit 7 out of 25, I considered it pretty good.

Yep 5.56 and 7.62 are great med to long range rounds but if I am moping up an infestasion in a building I will take a shotgun any day of the week.
