Yeah, Sharp and I had this idea because we're always wanting to post pics of our exploits, but don't want to annoy you all with a new thread every weekend. So lets see 'em-- pics of anywhere and everywhere so long as it's off the grid and/or involves knives being USED.

Re: Outdoors and Fieldcraft Photo thread! - 06/19/08 08:37 PM

I guess I'll do a several reposts as well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Knife Throwing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Here I go!!
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
It's going...
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
*THUNK*
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
Here's a closeup.
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
And here some random pic of me holding the [censored] thing.
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Of course, that's not our only large knife. We also decided to take out my RTAK for a some runs.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Unfortunately, this scene was cut short due to lack of ability to use the camera. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Cloak forgot to take a picture of it sticking in the tree. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Though on this next one, he got it perfectly, all the way to the end. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

[img]http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee292/The_Aaij_1/DSC_0043.jpg[/img]
Here's a close up to show it stuck.
[img]http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee292/The_Aaij_1/DSC_0046-1.jpg[/img]

But, wait, there's more. My griptilian was looking at me funny. I didn't like the look on it's face. So I decided to throw it too...from a good distance of at least 40 ft away. No griptilians were harmed during this.

Sorry, no actions shots. Just the aftermath. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

How did stick like this??????? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> (notice the strenght of the Axis lock!!)
[img]http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee292/The_Aaij_1/DSC_0100.jpg[/img]

Or like this?
[img]http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee292/The_Aaij_1/DSC_0104.jpg[/img]

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
[img]http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee292/The_Aaij_1/DSC_0106.jpg[/img]

In the end, both of us did a good amount of throwing several knives: LMFs, RTAK, FBM, CBK (Benchmade push dagger <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />), Rukus, My RMD, and the Griptilian. We were hoping to throw my TOPs, but I was babying it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> We love our knives. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Anyways, enjoy the cool pictures and somewhat randomness of this post.

My bow is a bear grizzly recurve of late 60's vintage, I use carbon and aluminum arrows(guess thats not to primitive <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />).
It has a pull of about 45-50lbs.
Some shots I took today.

A knife bow shot, the knife is a cold steel kudu which is a great knife for the cash, I wear around the yard.
Its german krupp steel is alot like swiss army knife steel, very easy to whip a razor edge on it.
[Linked Image from i36.tinypic.com]

some shots I took with the timer to check my form, my right arm isn't that off its just the angle.

I even took a vid.

Well, I took the yak out to the lake with the SOD for company. I intended to put out some jug lines, a few drop lines and jig for crappie. It got dark and I didn't want to be stuck out on the lake(resevoir actually)alone. So, I never got around to the jigging. It was a good evening.

Upon loading my boat back in the truck I also found my left boots leaks. After further investigation at home I think it is coming for the stitching along the instep. If some oil and beeswax doesn't cure it a call to Wesco will.

Well I have been wanting to post my set up for awhile now and since I'm on a roll with the pictures I figure I should keep it up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have put much time and thought in this kit and I think I have done pretty well.
The base pack is a older Camelbak Chaos, they still make this hydration system but it is in forest green and black now instead of coyote.
On the bottom of the pack you can see I have a poncho, on the side you can see my "survival knife" and psk, on the other side is the orange survival bandana which is usually inside the pack but is outside because of the recent hunting season, and on the left strap you can see a 1700lb carabiner.

[Linked Image from i40.tinypic.com]

Here is the contents of the front pocket, I keep these things in here because I use them alot.
Inside is a SOG powerlock, canteen cup and stove, filter tabs, and the IMPS-NET(http://www.brigadeqm.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/store/level4c.tam?M5COPY.ctx=7824) that also contains 100yds of 550 cord.

[Linked Image from i44.tinypic.com]

Here is the contents of my knife kit, the pouch is a maxpedition cacoon, the sheath is a basic spec-ops molle, the strap is from a Gerber LMF2.
The knife is a Busse Comp Edge Hell Razor which I chose because it is really light, tough, chops, and cuts extremely well.
Contents are: firesteel with fatwood, hank of 110lb cord, medium stone, complete Doug Ritter kit, firestarter, Case hunter trapper orange g-10, 12 hour light stick, and a Surefire E2L.

[Linked Image from i41.tinypic.com]

Here is the knife kit packed up.

[Linked Image from i43.tinypic.com]

This is what it looks like when you open up the main compartment of the pack.

[Linked Image from i43.tinypic.com]

Here are the contents of the pack laid out.
There are mechanix gloves, survival bandana, fire kit in tin, sas survival guide, extra bateries for the surefire, militec-1 oil, a 72 hour candle, wool socks, a heavly modified sawyer medkit (with extra E-badanges, sutures, moleskin, cream etc.), toilet paper, two minirolls of ductape, 2 500kcal energy bars, the rough and fine rod from a sharpmaker, 2 12 hour lightsticks, paracord, heatsheet, and a silva ranger compass.

[Linked Image from i41.tinypic.com]

Now packing it up.
I try to pack smart, with the most needed and used stuff at the top.
First I put in the candle, socks and 550 cord.

[Linked Image from i39.tinypic.com]

Next is the lightsticks, tape, energybars, heatsheet, sharpening rods, and medkit.

[Linked Image from i39.tinypic.com]

Lastly the bag with the book, bateries, oil, and firekit goes in, then the TP, gloves, bandanna, and the silva ranger sits on top and is dummy corded to a loop on my pack strap.

[Linked Image from i44.tinypic.com]

Here it is all zipped up and ready to go again.

[Linked Image from i39.tinypic.com]

Hope that gives you guys some ideas.
If you have any questions just ask.

I just weighed it, it weighs including the knife kit and a full bladder of water only 14.5lbs.

That's why I took the pic because the tree was sp big that it was odd the way it bent over like a sapling.

I'll admit, that's part of the reason I wanted (and now have coming) a hook... I could see the built in versatility the moment I laid eyes on it. Way better than using the wire cutter stud of an Isreali made M9 Bayonet... although I got pretty proficient with that this weekend, lol.

Just got back, helluva sunburn and a lotta guns to clean. Gotta few pics as well, and a gear review that I'm gonna post on the gear thread here shortly.

This was a camping trip earlier this year. Knives used:

ScrapYard Regulator = Shelter & Batoning
ScrapYard Scraper 5 = Food Prep
ScrapYard Urban Mutt = General Use

Regulator:

Full 4 days / 3 nights of baton work....

[Linked Image from i38.tinypic.com]
[Linked Image from i36.tinypic.com]

On day 3 I thought I'd test the edge with a single angular swing at a strong branch....

[Linked Image from i34.tinypic.com]

Pulled the stone out to sharpen it, but thought I'd perform the "curl test" before sharpening....

[Linked Image from i35.tinypic.com]

Other Bussekin:

Wife making dinner....

[Linked Image from i33.tinypic.com]

My dividing a steak into "His & Hers" servings....

[Linked Image from i36.tinypic.com]

The aftermath:

Finish wear, but a razor edge after 30 seconds on a wet stone...

Here's some more Aussie wildlife.

A close friend of mine, dead now from a snake bite. Mainland Tiger snake.

It was said that he had half blood, half snake venom in his veins. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Seems like anyone handling snales like that is just ASKING to get bitten! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> I wonder how he would have done with an angry water moccasin. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

This list suposed to be the top 25 most dangerous in the world.

Facts and Figures: World's Most Venomous Snakes
in categories: facts, figures, most venomous snakes.
Which snake species is the most venomous depends on the measure used. The average or the maximum venom yield from milking could be suggested, but these measures can be criticized as not reflecting the impact of a real bite. The measure generally acknowledged as best reflecting how dangerous a snake's venom is is that of LD50. The lower this number, the less venom is required to cause death. By that measure, the most venomous snake in the world is Australia's inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus). The table below gives the top 25 species in order, their LD50, and their distribution.

Snake Species LD50* Distribution

1. Inland taipan 0.025 Australia
2. Eastern brown snake 0.053 Australia
3. Coastal taipan 0.099 Australia

5. Black tiger snake 0.131 Australia
6. Beaked sea snake 0.164 Australia
7. Black tiger snake (Chappell Island ssp.) 0.194 - 0.338 Australia
8. Death adder 0.400 Australia
9. Gwardar 0.473 Australia
10. Spotted brown snake 0.360 (in bovine serum albumin) Australia
11. Australian copperhead 0.560 Australia
12. Cobra 0.565 Asia
13. Dugite 0.660 Australia

Re: Outdoors and Fieldcraft Photo thread! - 10/04/12 09:34 AM

We had a similar conversation about snakes at work a week ago. I argued that the Taipans weren't the deadliest snakes just because it is the most venomous. But, my argument was moot when we found this list.

http://www.reptilegardens.com/reptiles/snakes/venomous/worlds-deadliest-snakes.php

Apparently the Taipans have big fangs and a bad attitude too.

Here are some outdoors pics from my recent travels. Not exactly knife friendly countries, so apologies for not brandishing any blades (public places and all).

Some pics from Costa Rica

Coral snake that fell off the hill and landed in front of me. If you look close there is a Costa Rican blind snake (gray in color) to the left of the coral snake. The coral snake bit the blind snake, not sure if he survived or not

My work life is intense to say the least. That is the main reason I have been MIA from the Yard. Operations in US, Costa Rica and Philippines makes for a busy work day for me.

I am from Arizona, so the heat anywhere in the world is pretty tame to what my body is used to. I have had skin cancer twice, so I don't screw around with exposed skin anymore. The mosquitos were off the hook as well. Some bad diseases over there from skeeters. My wife has the shall because she thought she was going to get torn up by the skeeters.
