Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/20/08 02:54 AM

Nice collection of SureFires there! I am waiting on the UA2 and the UB2. Gotta have those two puppies for some reason. Hoping the ARC-1 and ARC-2 HIDs are not priced out of my range as those are my two SureFire grail lights <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> .
Posted By: KENKEN

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/20/08 02:57 AM

I'm starting to use the fenix more because they use double A batteries. those CR123 3v can get quite expensive if you play with it all night <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/20/08 03:20 AM

You can use rechargeable 17670 Li-ions in most SureFire bodies w/o issue. I bored out an M2 for 18650 and run all three of my G2 lights off 17670 cells.

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/20/08 02:34 PM

they hold up great if you charge them right, hundreds of charges but every single time you charge them wrong, I understand you cut that number in half!

yeah that's why I stay away from Ni-Cad type rechargables. Knowing myself I'll probably mess it up after 10 charges. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/21/08 08:56 AM

Thanks, MRPink <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> . As for KENKEN, all you need is a good charger, perhaps a voltmeter to periodically verify your ending voltages (no more than 4.2V). Pick up the Pila IBC, or two for safe and reliable charging of 18650, 17670 and 18650 cells. Hundreds of charges is correct!

Posted By: KENKEN

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/21/08 11:44 PM

all my surefires are very nicely made too. The L4 feels just right and its 5watts LED gives off a huge amount of light. Its not a spotlight by any means but it does hell of a fine jobfor close up work outdoor. The 5watt LED is suppose to last at least 50,000 hours too. No chance of it "burning" out.

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/24/08 06:04 PM

I have several handhelds over 300mW, one over 430mW but that is a prototype Hercules that Dimitry from LaserGlow hooked up. Bootlegtogo over at Optotronics is a great guy I have several of his as well... one at 315-350mW. Oh all are 532nm(Green). That LaserGlow prototype can cut through a setbelt in about 10 seconds.
Posted By: duFontaine

Re: JYD Death Chat - 10/24/08 07:34 PM

No check that...10 seconds if the setbelt is being pulled tight, and any were from 15-22 seconds if the setbelt is just laying there. Oh, it has to be a dark colored belt. The one I just tried was blue-black.

Re: JYD Death Chat - 11/27/08 08:42 PM

Turns out that they made a mistake when they set up the lay-away plan.
Instead of getting this one
[Linked Image from i292.photobucket.com]

I ended up with this one
[Linked Image from i292.photobucket.com]

Both are .12 gauge with 20 inch barrels, and I saved myself $100.00 which was cool.

If I ever want to get a different barrel, I'll be able to pick one up for about $75.00.
I think though, that I'll just leave this one as it is, and pick up an old Lee Enfield .303 or something like that if I want another one.

Took this one out shooting clay targets on the weekend. It has a lot less kick to it than I thought it would.
After shooting this one, I shot my friends Ithica Featherlight .12 gauge.
It is far lighter than my Remington, with a 26 inch barrel as opposed to mine
with a 20 inch barrel.
Man did that thing kick. Way worse than my 870.

It is a Dominion Arms 870 clone in 12ga. Chinese made, but quality reports seem to be pretty good. Instead of the usual tube mag thought it uses a 5 round box mag as you can see! Should make for an amusing toy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Once I have it I'll be able to measure the OAL with just the pistol grip and then figure out how short a barrel I can put on it. Remington parts swap into it quite easily.

Tom - Handguns are legal depending on barrel length. Only really annoying thing is that they are range use only. Still, you can have some decent fun there. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re: JYD Death Chat - 12/06/08 08:03 AM

Closest I've ever gotten to something that compressed was "GLGH": Good Luck, Good Hunting. My Mechwarrior 3 gaming clan always used to say that over team-chat before we deployed into a mission.

Man. Fond memories of stomping around in my Bushwhacker custom. Everybody else seemed to prefer the UAC/20 more than the LBx/20 owing to its greater cyclic rate and kinetic transfer... But the LBx/20 was my favorite since it was a twelve ton sawn-off shotgun and sanded the entire target with pellets. Good times.

Though I probably racked up more kills with a Timberwolf and 3 ER-PPCs. Requires some fire discipline owing to the long cycle and extreme heat output on the ER-PPC, but if you wait for that sweet shot, an alphastrike delivers utterly catastrophic damage. That and it was amusing to plink people at 800 meters or so. Most combat in Mechwarrior 3 took place at very short range owing to the poorly written net code and its massive amount of lag. People got so used to fighting at short range that a lot of time they wouldn't even start dodging until 600 meters (ERMLAS range, which was the longest-ranged commonly used Zero-TOF weapon). Though they learned fast when you took off their mech's arms and legs with one shot.

If you want to be really classy, you sit off from the main battle a ways and wait until an enemy unit alphastrikes a boatload of lasers into one of your buddies, then you shoot the guy that just fired. ERPPC hits add heat to a mech. Between the huge heat spike they got from alphastriking a bunch of lasers, plus what you just added to them, they go nuclear.

(Topic? What topic?)

to get a bare blade, so can't give an opinion about the ease of plunge. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

I had a pitbull mixed with labrador, loved the water. Also loved to dig and chase people, parents gave him away while I was in school. Soooo wrong.

Re: JYD Death Chat - 12/26/08 05:52 PM

something strange happened at our xmas party yesterday...

My cousin who is pretty much an anti wants to get a shotgun. He said things might actually hit the fan with the economy going the way its going.

Want to know what I told him?

My wife just signed up for facebook with her daughters and grandaughters...
I assisted in setting up the account and showing her a few things.

Have I opened a Pandora's box????

My favorite saying is by a friend WarEagle off of a different forum.

Always prepare --- Prepare All Ways

Went shooting for Christmas. My family (which likes to tell me I'm crazy for buying guns) took me up on my joke to take them shooting. I thought, Sure-they'll bail out last minute! NOT. Shocker. We all had fun, all 16 of us(uncles, cousins, etc.) What have I started...?

Careful Dawg, you'll end up having your own family army <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Careful Dawg- they will shoot all your ammo and want more. Next- they will want all your steel. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: JYD Death Chat - 12/30/08 09:50 PM

Got a replacement credit card in the mail the other day. They told me that
my account had been compromised, but that they didn't think there had been
any fraudulent activity on it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
Ok, I can buy that, but I questioned why they didn't get ahold of me in a more
timely fashion? Especially over the Christmas buying season!
Spent an hour on the phone with the guy going over each and every purchase made
on my card over the last 2 months. Turns out that I could account for each and
every transaction, so all is well.

We canceled the old card and activated the new one.

The new one has one of those computer chips in it.
I asked directly if it could track my movements via satellite. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />
The guy said it couldn't <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> ... yet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
After a lengthy pause without laughter on my part, he told me that he was just
joking...who said they don't have a sense of humor. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Then he told me that it was an additional layer of card security to prevent
double skimming (not sure what that is?)
All is well <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I think <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Re: JYD Death Chat - 12/30/08 11:04 PM

The "chip" in your card is called a RFID (Radio Frequency ID) tag. They have a lot of neat uses, but some potential privacy infringing uses as well. Skimming is where someone takes your card out of your sight (like when eating someplace and they take your card from you while at the table and go ring it up) and they run it through a handheld device that allows them to copy the info on your card and fradulantly copy the info to a blank card. Google both if you want to learn more.

Andy, do you own shares in Google by any chance? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> just kidding.
Thanks for the info. I'll look that up when I get a chance.

Re: JYD Death Chat - 12/31/08 05:29 AM

They replace your card if there's a chance that it has been compromised, not just if they know it has. Like they may have had a security breach and lost a thousand credit card records, and yours just happened to be one of those leaked.

By the way, I would take that guy seriously when he says "not yet". There are some truly scary technologies being developed in the name of security. A good question to ask when people talk about security is, what's being secured; and another is, what does it actually cost. Not in money but in freedoms.

I try not to be too paranoid, but... They're not out to get you, but if they were, you're screwed.

I didn't.
</mysterious> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Anyway, if you look at:

1.) powers given to or taken by (given via acquiescence) the governments of the world in the name of security,
2.) increasing dependence on interconnected digital systems at all levels of society,
3.) increasing features in decreasing size leading to more interconnectedness and less user understanding

... then it's easy to predict where we're going. At least in the near future.

Homework: Find out about the concept of the panoptic sort (pan-, "all" + optic, "seeing". Sort, verb, to select or organize data based on defined criteria). Identify ways in which modern society has already begun to implement it or ways in which it could conceivably be advanced without public awareness.

This concludes today's lesson on paranoia. Be vigilant!

Re: JYD Death Chat - 01/02/09 08:07 PM

The test case has been Great Britain.
Everything that has been implemented in that country is what we are heading
towards. If you thought that the USSR was an oppressive regime, think again.
That was just for practice.
The New World was implemented in GB and is now being implemented on the North
American continent. The next time you are at an intersection look to see if
there are camera's set up so that "traffic flow" can be "monitored".

Not so much Cheer, but Cheers anyway <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

LOL! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I barely saw your post, you couldn't have said it any better. Everyone I have talked to and taken out shooting has been bitten by the 'I need a gun' bug. I made sure to go over the safety procedures with them and was surprised at how much fun we had.

Ordawg, I didn't even bother showing them any steel! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Can you imagine that Christmas list? As for ammo, no kidding!
Tax returns, where are you....

Guess I'll just have to do what I did this year then <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
I bought myself a Christmas present so that I could make sure
that I would get at least one thing that I wanted <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

What was surprising this year, was that most of the family actually
got me things that I liked. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
That's quite a feat, because usually, no one knows what to get for
the others in the family. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbdn.gif" alt="" />

You ever get that coffee that is from somewhere that an animal eats it- digests it- and is supposed to be really great ? It is supposed to be really good stuff- I just don't know if I would drink it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

I've heard about that, and think I'll pass.

Just give me pure, undiluted coffee. I'll even chew on the grinds for that
extra buzz <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Re: JYD Death Chat - 01/10/09 02:25 AM

I love coffee as well! I even went to Seattle to visit the first Starbucks. The city is dreary but the coffee was great and it was actually better at the little mom and pop places.

ORdawg here it is: Kopi luwak asking price: $600 per pound

"The secret of this delicious blend," enthuses the Indonesia Tourism Promotion Board, "lies in the bean selection, which is performed by a luwak, a species of civet cat endemic to Java. The luwak will eat only the choicest, most perfectly matured beans which it then excretes, partially digested, a few hours later. Plantation workers then retrieve the beans from the ground, ready for immediate roasting."

Sorry, but I also pass.
