Tomorrow is gonna suck

Tomorrow is gonna suck - 01/27/11 08:54 AM

Well we have two dogs.
The first is a medium sized heinze 57 (unknown breed) that we rescued when she was 14 to 20 months old.
The second is a German Shepard that we've had since he was 6 weeks old.
The terrier cross is over 17 years old and the German Shepard is 15.
The gsd has not been feeling well the last few days and today he lost the use of his rear end.
He isn't in pain, but he can't walk.
Tomorrow at 9:30 he is going for his last trip to the vet.
I won't see him suffer or be in any type of pain.
The worst thing is that I won't be there, at 9:30 I will be 40 miles away making a presentation to 75 people at a conference.
My wife and oldest daughter will have to do it.

Here is Sargent a few years ago

[censored] Bill,I'm sorry man.It sure hurts letting go of our furry family members.Putting him down now is the best for him though.
At least he had a long happy life with a loving family.
You definately need to adopt another,it will/does help ease the pain.
Thanks for not letting him suffer.
Smokes up for Sarge & his family.

Bill, I'm sorry to hear the news. Nothing I can say will take away the hurt, but Myke is right. They give us their love, and in the end we love them and don't let them suffer. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

My thoughts go to you and your family. I hate this time in a special friendship as it is so hard to handle, but just remember all the good memories and times.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

I firmly believe in this ability when we are on our way.

And I will have plenty of my dear animal friends waiting on me!
And I like knowing that too!

Re: Tomorrow is gonna suck - 01/28/11 09:01 AM

Thanks my friends
I don't regret the day I brought him home.
My only regret for today is that I couldn't be with him at the end.
I do not regret our decision to save him from pain.

My wife and oldest daughter were with him.
They are devastated.
When my daughter's boyfriend carried him out the door, Sarge struggled, when Brandon put him down, he walked to the car (last 2 days he couldn't stand).
They lifted him into the car (he loved car rides) and the sun was shining through the window.
They petted him up and fed him his special treats as they drove to the vet.
After they lifted him out of the car he walked into the office, sniffed around and followed my wife to the back room and laid on the mat.
He barely made the walk of 25 maybe 30 feet but he did it.
It broke their hearts because, he could walk.
Our vet came in and told them Sarge had nothing left and it was the right decision.

Our dogs are part of our family, I don't think we will get another until after bear passes.
She is too frail to stand the rigors that a young dog would bring to the house.
I have been fortunate in having such a loyal friend and family protector.
He will be missed

Thank you all again for your kind words

Here is to old dogs and children

Re: Tomorrow is gonna suck - 08/06/11 08:19 PM

Well guys last night really sucked.
We had bear into the vets because she was sick, vet checked her out and said she was in amazing shape for a 17 year old dog and that she just needed a prescription for the bad bacterial infection she had.
We took her home relieved that she would be alright (she was real sick in the morning and we couldn't see the vet until 3:00 PM).
Just after midnight Bear went unconscious and just before 3:00 AM this morning she breathed her last.
We had that dog since June 1996, now I have just bundled her up to take her to the vets to get cremated.
Been a real bad 8 months around here with losing pets.

Sorry to hear the news. I've been there and will be again. I think the companionship and love our furry friends give us is worth the inevitable pain of their loss.

Re: Tomorrow is gonna suck - 08/08/11 09:56 PM

Very sorry to hear of your loss. It is extremely hard to put down a pet or lose one. I had to put both my cats down within a year due to cancer (I had both since kittens and they were 14 yrs old)...It was very tough to do but the right thing to do. Part of pet ownership is that we will bring home these pets and love them and provide for them knowing that someday, inevitably, their life will end and we will have to see to it that it is as peaceful and pain-free as possible. We are their guardians and the tough job at their life's end is the price we must pay for the many years of love and enjoyment that they provide for us. We are their guardians to the end.

Very sorry for your loss...Remember the great times you shared and look forward to many more years with another dog. There are many that needs good homes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

RIP Bear and Sargent
