I haven't really beat on mine, waiting for warmer weather and walks in the fields. I slightly sharpened the swedge and edge, and it's a pretty wicked knife. The fact that it's inexpensive helps; not the end of the world if someone stole it from my truck.

One other inexpensive choice would be a Buck 119 from Wal-Mart....about $50.00 for a sharp blade.
