I'm not sure, but I think the postal lady was out delivering packages on her own time, so to speak. It's not uncommon for her to do that, the reasoning being that tomorrow would be an impossibly long day if she didn't. She had nothing but packages, which take a long time at most stops, so she's being smart and spreading her workload out.
