My primary hobby is firearms. I spend a lot of time on the range, tinkering with them, buying and trading them. I've had a very good relationship with my FFL (firearms dealer) for a lot of years. He doesn't "stock" guns he just transfers them out of his family's sewing machine shop. As such, I'm in there quite often shipping something I sold or picking up something I bought. Last week I shipped a Sig handgun, and was talking to a very nice retired gentlemen that hangs out / helps process the transfers (this shop processes a lot of transfers ... a guy that I use to shoot with bought FIFTY ... yes 50 ... guns through an auction last week alone ... he owns a very lucrative car lot). Anyway, this older gentlemen is very friendly, and enjoys talking about guns with me. Last week he mentioned knives, and that he was looking for an "unbreakable" knife. So I obviously had no choice but to pull my EDC blade out from under my coat.

My EDC blade happens to be a Busse Active Duty Battle Grade. He was duly impressed by it. I mentioned that I was looking for a cheap folding knife for every day stuff and left the shop.

Today I was back in the shop picking up my new Les Baer SRP. When he saw me walking in he went out to his car.

After I finished with the 4473 paperwork we were chatting about the Les Baer and he asked "what brand was that knife again"? As it turns out, he and the store owner are both knife collectors but (some how) didn't know about Busse(kin). He asked me write down the brand. While I was writing it down, he pulled out a new Kershaw 1830 and handed it to me. I was impressed by how positive it opened, and how it felt. I played with it for a bit and then went to hand it back to him and he said "no its yours". I was confused and told him ... no sir, this is your knife. He replied, "keep it you said you needed a cheap folder".

After profusely thanking him, I went out to my car and brought in my backpack in which I keep another Bussekin ... a Swamp Rat Ratmandu. Both he and the owner were really impressed so I called up the website and showed them where to order their own.

So, in a nut shell ...

A) I went to pick up an AWESOME 1911;
B) I had another opportunity to preach the Bussekin gospel;
C) I ended up with a free knife!

Its odd how knives can bring out kindness and generosity in people (some of you here know I'm talking about you too).
