I actually have a Northwind (and a Golok).

I think what I have described above would be more appealing to me than either the Northwind or the Golok.

I like the idea of Res-C for grip, feel comfort, etc. But, for a 15in to 16in blade, I am a little leary of the much smaller tang used for the Res-C handles. Full tang and micarta seems a little more ideal. But, if Dan were to say it would be strong and tough enough, then I would be all over the Res-C.

I prefer the handle (grip), balance and handling of the Golok over the Northwind.

I also prefer the quality of finish on my Golok. I love Bark River knives. I have way too many, but my Northwind looks like it was ground by a blind man. All of my other Barkies have pretty nice or very nice grind quality.

When the grind is decent, I love the full convex grind!!!

The Northwind is a little longer than I prefer and the Golok is a little shorter than I would like.

The Golok is very quick and agile. The Northwind is not as quick.

If I choke up to the front of the Northwind grip, the balance and handling are much better. But, then the grip isn't just right.

Of course toughness is very important for this type of blade, but Balance, handling, grip, feel, speed and similar characteristics are also very important to me for this type of blade.

I would also prefer a blade that is shaped a little more like a Wakizashi than the Northwind is.

I am sure the Scrap Ruck Kensei as drawn above or similar would be more to my liking...... with the logo of course!

JYD #39 I prefer "SATIN" blades!!!
