I don't think it matters what breed of dog a person gets, the most important thing is to match the breeds temperment to yours. No use in getting a high energy dog if you are a couch potatoe or getting a bassett hound if you want to walk miles each day with it.
Matching a dogs tempermate to yours and then follow it up with proper training and you have a treasure.

It looks to me like you have found that treasure and I am sure glad you didn't loose it
