Ok guys ive been wanting a bolt-action rifle for a very longtime. After seeing the movie " Shooter " the craving for one went out of controle. I was thinking of going with a 22lr but desided i want something that will fire farther. Seeing how im on a tight bugget at the moment i was thinking of going with a mosin-nagant m44. A local gunshop i go to has some almost new condition ones for 125. The owner got his hands on 30 rifles and will let you look them over and chose wich one you want.

What do you guys think? Good deal? I read that 90 is to much for a mosin but the ones ive seen for that price are in hellish conditon and don't look to safe.

If you could suggest a better rifle or if you own or have shot a mosin please give your opion.

Im willing to spend about 300 max at the moment.

I don't hunt or anything like that so the rifle will be for target shooting and just to have incase zombies ever attack lol.

Thanks in advance.

Shooting a .22lr and shooting a high power rifle are very different experiences. The basics are the same but the muzzle blast and kick make high power more challenging. I'm of the "start small" and move up mindset. Trying to learn the precision trigger squeeze on a high power rifle with a big muzzle blast and kick is probably not the fastest way to learn good riflemanship. Just try finding a decent $300 high power rifle with a great trigger for that matter.

$300 will buy you a very decent .22 but not a terrific high power rifle/scope combo. Although classically folks are taught to shoot iron sights first and then move to a peep or scope I strongly recommend that you start with a scoped rifle. It's important to get it on the paper quickly and learn to control your groups. You can always pull the scope off later. Contrary to popular opinion, iron sights do not make you a better shooter. Breathing, hold, and trigger control make you a better shooter. What you'll find is that shooting with a scope really makes you SEE bad technique. And calling the shot is an invaluable teaching tool.

Anyway, a few odd thoughts from an old rifleman who has taught a few kids to shoot <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
