I never noticed that. I went straight to the order page! But if you look at the picture Dan posted, there is no visible penetrator point. I wasn't expecting one and mine don't have the gaps. I guess I got lucky. I really like my DMLEs. I left one of mine with the factory edge, and it is pretty darned sharp compared to some past offeriings. I just prefer a thinner edge. I am pretty sure Dan will repair or replace any defective DMLEs if he is contacted. A penetrator point would be easy to do. You could do it with a file if you had to.
