If you’re knife isn’t secured with a retention strap (like a pouch sheath) it can pull it out and if you don’t notice it at the time, you can lose your knife. A variation on the above method is instead of tying the ends of the cord together as shown; you just tie a knot on each end.
Then, you use a bead or something similar that’s large enough to fit two layers of cord through it. Then you take the end opposite the knots and feed it through. Then, the bead holds the ends together instead of tying. When you’re walking in the woods, you slide the bead toward the handle, leaving the ends free and they won’t catch on anything. I dunno if you understand what I mean with no pics, but maybe someone has a pic or link to show.
