i think it's fine for average citizens to own assult weapons. i would be ok with, and in fact favor of, requiring saftey and use courses so people would be proficient before being allowed to own any type of firearm.

i also think that when you seperate from the army, they should let you keep your weapon. that's what I call homeland security. i once hung out from a guy from switzerland in a bar and he told me all about their mandatory military service and that everyone has an assult rifle in the home.

some would make the arguement that burglurary(sp) might rise in order to steal the weapons, but would you break into a house knowing the owner and all his neighbors are armed?
