Ow. Several years ago I lopped off a bit of the tip/side of my left index finger, while chopping some basil for a soup, with a [censored] Miracle Blade. Cheap? Yes. Chinese? Yes. Sharp enough to cut through fingernail and a nice chunk of flesh without skipping a beat? Yes.

Wifey (GF at the time) drove me to the ER. I took the piece I had cut off, packed in ice. They were nice to me and did a "digital block" wherein they inject small amounts of lidocaine radially around the base of the finger to numb it. To check if it was numb, the doc had me look away, and asked "Can you feel this?" I say no, and I look back and he's poking my finger with a needle like it's a pin cushion. There was nothing to stitch, just a bleeding stumpy end, so he cauterized the wound with silver nitrate. Got a prescription for vicodin to take the edge off for the next few days.

They did NOT reattach the piece, and almost laughed that I bothered to bring in something that small. But it never hurts to bring it in and see what they say.

It healed up fine over time. You wouldn't notice that the curvature of that finger is slightly different than the others, unless I told you and you looked real close. Wife still gives me crap every time I go to chop stuff in the kitchen, which I guess is a good nag to be careful and pay attention to what I'm doing.
