I only carry about 20 pounds for a 3 day trip, but then again I am a mad man.
20 lbs. Still sounds like a lot to me. Unless it is winter. Winter gear adds quite a bit of weight.

I just tossed out a pair of pants and shirt which I didnt need
bunches of junk, mostly comfort items like an extra basha for the ground
down to 12 pounds
snugpak sleeping bag, basha, hammock/fishnet/dragbag/shelterframe, rations, firestarter, towell, cut down survival manual, poncho, yard hook, oht, psk, compass, mag lite, undies, t-shirt, socks, heavy milar blanket, first aid, etc.
