I don't believe most soldiers would be using a knife for such tasks. As far as I know the multi-tool is the tool of choice for most soldiers on employment. The wire cutters on most of the pliers are a lot quicker and work more efficiently than a knife.

I honestly would suggest that he get a Buss ST-56 (pointy and sharp and INFI) and a good multi-tool.

The ST-56 is a fighter knife with a 6 inch blade. Pointy for piercing and slightly curved for slashing.

The multi-tool would do all the wire cutting.

It's true that some TOPS knives have deep cut outs on the top of their knives for wire-cutter, though.

Anaconda is the model.

Place the wire in the groove, pull back, and twist.
