How do you make your own leather sheath? i would like to try sometime.

It’s fun and satisfying to make your own sheath. The easiest type to make is a pouch sheath, like the one I made for my GW. Being my first leather sheath, I think it turned out pretty well. I’ve been carrying it daily since I made it, and it’s been holding up just fine.

I first used some paper to make the pattern, leaving room for the belt loop that I sized to perfectly fit my belt, and enough room for it to fold over and leave room for the welt. Then when I was sure the paper was exactly the right size, I traced it onto the leather and cut it out. If you want to do it cheap as possible like I did without any extra tools, at the minimum you need some leather, waxed thread, heavy needles, and a drill or hammer and nail. Also some minor other things that most people already have like glue, pliers, etc. It’s not too hard, it just takes time.

When I get some free time, I’d like to try making some leather pocket sheaths for my SW. I also want to make a HEAVY duty sling (David and Goliath type sling, not gun sling) using leather and 550 cord.
