Different people have different needs so like WD said, more info would probably help.

For myself, if I was asked to list the top 3, they'd be: the Leatherman Surge, the Swisstool, and the Leatherman Wave. Not necessarily in that order depending on your personal needs.

My personal EDC is the Surge, along with 3 or 4 different kinds of saw blades and several different types of screwdriver bits. I will admit that most of the time I could get by with much less, but it's good to know I've got all that stuff if I need it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Funny you should ask...I was putting together my next order for the 2 sheaths you gave me quotes on and was trying to figure the pouch size and what to put in it and thought that a nice multitool would work nicely. If having a quality multitool means that it will be to big for that application, then I will need to figure something else out for the pouch, ie small survival kit, lighter etc.

Thanks for the help fellas, plenty of good information. I hadn't even heard of swisstools before.

Rainwalker made me a belt pouch for my Surge that is a survival kit. I’ll admit, it’s nothing like a complete kit. But I’m way ahead of the game when I have it. And when I walk out the door, I have it on my belt. It carries: the Surge; one bit-kit with assorted screwdriver bits; 4” X ¼” fero rod; a matching piece of fatwood; T shank saw blades—wood, hacksaw, and masonry/anything; 1 Leatherman bit extension, 1/8” drill bit with a hex shank base, that fits the bit extension tool, and a LED AAA flashlight.

Are there other things I’d like in my ideal emergency kit? Sure. Would I rather have this than nothing? Bet your sweet bippy. The beauty of it is, I always have it. Plus a few other things that are EDC.
