I am not terribly shocked, but a little.
I would have expected the Chopweiler to at least seem to be a little better chopper because of more weight. The Chopweiler feels more "powerful" vs. the CT being faster and more nimble.
??? Maybe blade speed came into play and evened out power ?????????
In any event, the speed and balance of the CT can have some advantages that I think are often over-looked. But, not that I would have expected to be a factor in this quick little test by Vic.
I mentioned the other day that I actually use my CT way more than my Chopweiler.
I love my Chopweiler and don't ever expect to sell it, but based on the heavy weight vs. both my Battle Rat and CT being lighter and the Battle Rat being a better chopper and my CT being more versatile, I still find my Chopweiler a little in no-man's land.
I sold my first Ratweiler partly because I was dissappointed in the last run of micarta scales vs. earlier scales, partly becuase the index finger recess and thumb ramp didn't work so great and partly because I felt my Camp Tramp and Battle Rat covered my bases for me better than my Ratweiler.
I like the improvements on the Chopweiler over the Ratweiler. I like the blade shape more and I like the handle better without the index finger notch and thumb ramp. I can appreciate why some people think the Ratweiler is better looking than the Chopweiler. But, I like the Chopweiler for my reasons.
Still, I think the the Battle Rat (similar to DFLE) and CT just get the job done very well.
I hate to say it, but I honestly wish Dan would release the Scrapweiler concept in Differentially heat treated SR-101 and Res-C. Or have Swamp Rat use Res-C to make the Scrapweiler and call it something else.
I mentioned on the other thread I would like to see a chop-off between the Chopweiler, DF and Battler Rat. But, if the CT can hang with a Chopweiler, I don't see the point anymore.
I love my Chopweiler, but with my Battle Rat weighing less and the Chopweiler not excactly being nearly as versatile and all-around as the CT, the Chopweiler might continue staying in the drawer.....
...... And I will be much more interested in the Scrapweiler...... (wishing for it in SR-101 though.)
