Thats a sweet little knife, I'd like to see a pic of it in your hand to get a better idea of the size. Ihave always wondered if you can mess up the temper from sharpening , at work we sharpen our knives on an aluminum oxide belt sharpener.
Here is a pic of my first one. They are small, about the size of a tactical folder, but the handle fits my hand well.

Yes, you can overheat a blade on a belt grinder, but it is usually not a probem with good new belts. If I am reprofiling an edge on a small knife, sometimes I have to cool the blade a bit. Some steels tend to heat up more than others.
