I don't always carry my Flash memory stick. But, I have needed it a lot lately. It is on a quick clip for easy removal. Those little memory sticks are amazing. 8 gigs about the size of my little finger-nail. Most of the size is USB connector and metal and silicon protective casing to make it harder to loose and easier to handle.
Why, your drive is much too large. Go light! You need a
Sony Micro Vault. Here’s one of mine shown with a regular size flash drive. It’s the smallest size drive I’ve seen that doesn’t need an adapter. It fits right into the USB port. They make them up to 8 GB. It’s thinner than my challenge coin.
I knew somebody would point out my Flash Memory stick was "Large"..... And I just had a feeling it would be Andy.
Yes... I know there are other options. I did a bunch of research a month or so ago.
The Micro SD chips are the smallest I am aware of. But, as Andy pointed out, to be used with a computer and to transfer file info, they require an adapter.
I am under the impression that the Micro SD chips were designed more for phones and similar devices where removal and transfer is much less common (????) - But, pretty FREAKIN' amazing to have that amount of data on such a small chip!
Considering the prices, it makes me annoyed that I recently purchased a iPod Shuffle for my wife and had to pay a lot more for 2 gigs over 1 gig - when I should be able to get 8 gigs for about the difference I paid to upgrade from 1 to 2 gigs.
I have seen USB and SD type adapters for the Micro SD chips. Both are still quite small.
The SD adapter is smaller than most USB adapters and most newer computers have an SD slot. But, some don't. USB is still a standard. So, I couldn't sell myself on the SD adaptor due to possible lack of use on some computers.... although, every computer I have been around lately has an SD slot - except my inlaws - old school and dial up.
They actually have my old - old hand-down computer.
But, if you have the USB adapter, you have something similar to a what I have anyway - except mine adds the thin silicon protection - which seemed like a good idea since I wanted to attach to my key-chain or SAK and it would get banged around in my pocket.
I did also see the Sony Micro Vaults and the similar (and cool)
Super Talent Pico - C .
My concern with the USB Micro options from Sony and Super Talent Pico-C was the exposed / non-protected USB tab.
The Pico-C has an attached ring that would allow it to be clipped to my SAK or key-chain, but I was concerned about those tabs getting beat up around my keys and such (????)
Also, I was a little concerned it might be so small, I would loose it.
On the other hand, my
Patriot X-Mini 8gb ![[Linked Image from c1.neweggimages.com]](http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/ProductImageCompressAll200/20-220-301-01.jpg)
has a cap I have to keep track of to use. I feel I might loose the cap some day.
We'll see. In any event, the Patriot X-Mini is pretty darn small and has worked flawlessly and VERY fast for now.
