I've never done it to old slabs before, but I did it to new micarta to make these slabs. They're not as fancy as the Busse slabs, though. I used a dremel (carbide burr bit) and a small rat-tail (round) file to do these.

Micarta responds very well to dremel work and sandpaper - wear a respirator and goggles, especially with G10.
