You want to practice your skill set, but don't want to break the

Here, we can't even practice fire making in our own backyards.
Our city council has decided to go "environmental" and instituted a
city bylaw banning open fires within city limits. Even fires in
firepits are banned. Before the last election, they were talking about
banning wood burning stoves, and also about banning people from having
fires in fireplaces "inside your own house" but the uproar over that
was so great that they had to back off from it.
Right now, if you get caught with an open fire of any kind in city limits,
it's a $500.00 fine.

I like your idea though about finding a nice secluded spot where you can't be
observed, to make your fire.
