Question for Jeff. Have you ever done any kydex that didnt rely on presure to hold the knife in? Maybe a web loop for the belt loop with a strap of some type as retention for the knife. Hope i didnt confuse ya.

One of the advantages to kydex is the ability to retain the knife using the formed kydex, however I have made kydex inserts for both leather and nylon sheaths that didn't rely on the kydex for retention. and I have made a few kydex sheaths with a retainer strap too, although those also relied on the kydex a little for retention for added security and to hold the knife in place. The tricky part would be making sure the the sheath and retention are set up in such a way so that the knife doesn't rattle around or bounce up and down in the sheath. It can be done, it's just not the common practice primarily because most users like not having to have a retention strap that at times can get in the way. That's one of the reasons I have kinda grown to like a well designed leather pouch style. It gives you a kydex like retention, without the noise or scratchiness of kydex. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
