The farrier (guy who trims hooves) out at camp has had skin cancer in his face several times, it was pretty surprising to hear someone say that they've had chunks of their cheek cut out once or twice.

I burn easily so taking precautions has never been a problem, but stories like this certainly reinforce the principle.
