I wish that I was exaggerating with those stories, but I'm not.
My best all time winter story dealt with a move.
I was living in Prince George (the -53F place), and was moving to Kamloops (the
town that I live in now). Kamloops is about 300 miles south of Prince George.
The night before I was supposed to move it started to snow. By the morning, it had dropped 3 feet
of snow. Took me 3 hrs to dig out the driveway. About noon, I was able to get
on the highway.
By the time I had travelled 70 miles, I was in whiteout / blizzard conditions.
The only way that I knew where I was, was that I was following a transport truck.
If he would have driven off the road, I would have happily followed.
Conditions cleared up after 50 miles or so, and by the time I got to Kamloops
I was surprised to see that they only had a 1/2 inch of snow on the ground, and it was
so warm that I was walking around in my shirtsleeves.
Phoned my grandmother in Prince George to let her know that I was ok.
It had dropped another 3 feet of snow during the day, so they had a little over 6 feet in one day.

That was the late 70's, though and lots has changed since then.

Cheers.
