With the red an black handle I just used the Highlight/Shadow adjust feature, then took a History snapshot and reverted back to the darker image. The I used the History brush to paint the handle back in from the History Snapshot. I also used smart sharpen and the healing tool to sharpen then remove dust. All the tools I used are available in CS2.

It really only took about 4 mins for both.
