...You've got to ask yourself a question. If Jerry felt that SR77 was superior to SR101, why didn't he decide to give SR101 to Dan instead of reserving it for Swamp Rat . . . his mid-grade (and higher priced) knife line?
Maybe S7 was cheaper than 52-100. Or maybe he was just so thrilled with the performance of his SR77, he wanted to use it somewhere. In the larger blades, he can through temper with the S7, but does differential tempering for the SR101 to improve tougness of the blade. Maybe it costs more to do that. I really don't know. I know I like both steels just fine.
