the striationgs on the CG model? what advantage does this have for the blade??? any? is this knife going to be pretty thick? im guessing so... .25 thick, right?
Yes it is .25 thick...probably more on the CG with the coating...I expect .26 or .27 ....the grooves are shallower and thinner on the released CG compared to the military over run which helps asthetically IMO...but personally I see no advantage in them...rather the opposite...I think they would be working against the cutting motion or stabbing motion of the knife...especially a .26 wide knife but with the weight of the knife ( I am guessing at 14 ounces ) I doubt you would feel it due to momentum. You might notice it on "fine" work....
I have said this before...but with the grooves running contra to the edge...they are likely to attract deposits of what is being cut...again a disadvantage IMO...
Jeremy Horton thought it was done to make the most of a CAD CAM grinder and limiting time on "human hand finishing" i.e. labour....which seems the best logical reason for doing it to me.
