I just ordered the liquid and powder chromium oxide
that you used,from Hand American.
Now i need some kinda leather to put it on.
Do you really use the smooth side of the leather?
I always put the jewelers rouge on the rough, split side.

Some people use the smooth side, and some people use the rough side. I have always used the smooth side, but what I was taught to do as a youngster was to take the piece of leather that I would be using as a strop and give the smooth side a light scrubbing with saddle soap and medium bristle brush, then wipe it all off and let it dry real good. After that warm it up a little with a blow dryer and then apply your stropping compound.

You do not have to do all of those things, but that is how I have done it all of my life and it works very well.
