I have a question, and that is how come you don't wear head dress until after the swearing of your oath?
I presume there is a historical/traditional or ceremonial reason for this?

because prior to swearing in, you cant wear the beret that has the gold bar on it bc technically, you arent a 2LT until you take the oath of office. this is just done on the day you commission, prior to swearing in. normally, as a cadet you dont wear a beret... u just wear your patrol cap with your cadet rank on it. officers wear their rank on their cover, enlisted wear their unit crest.
