I composed a long and too introspective answer to this question before deciding not to post it earlier today, but the bottom line is that while I'd like to be a competent outdoorsman, my limit for "roughing it" is something like a 2-3 hour hike -- I like air conditioning better than mosquito bites. Since I can't carry even a small fixed-blade at work and don't engage in knife-appropriate recreational activities, I'm not sure why I've gone so hog/dog wild -- I tell myself the knives are investments, but on the rare occasions I've sold any, I've let them go at cost, which while nice, isn't how anyone manages their investments.

If I'm a collector, then I shouldn't consider my knives as investments.
If my knives are investments, then I should manage them differently than I have.

Blade 2009 will be very interesting because right now, I feel as if I can be comfortable buying much more selectively. I passed on the HG55 and the SAR4, and I own an abundance of HI khukris, so I doubt I'll pony up the $ for a "Killa Z". If S5 LEs are released at Blade, I'll probably pass (because like most JYDs, my number would be long gone before I get chance at it). I'll follow up on my S5 CG order, but don't feel a burning desire for any other knives right now, so will these feelings persist or will a "gotta have" be released at Blade?
