I have spent a fair bit of money on getting what I would call a "lightweight" high quality "combat machete" and had to go to a custom maker to give me a 12.5 inch blade that came in as a total weight of 16 oz...definately a good buy though...the chopping power and for once the "longevity" of the edge make this a very satisfying user. For the same weight though you can have a DFLE...which at 10 inches on the blade is a very good alternative...and it is a fair bit cheaper...even on secondary prices...but they are scarce...a new offering from Dan with a longer reach than the DFLE and thinner stock to make the same weight would be a pretty much instant "classic"!

The 16 oz Hossum blade is the bottom one...

The DFLE though is a great knife...
