Glenfield was made by Marlin, and was marketed as Glenfield for one of the store chains--just can't remember which one. The Model 60 is a great rifle, but tend to be problematic if not kept clean. I bought more than a few from pawnshops while I was in college and fixed them up.
I think it was Montgomery Ward, but you are right. I never had any problems with my Model 60, but I did clean it on occcasion. It it the largest selling 22 rifle in the world. Marlins are usually quite accurate. I usually had to work on my Rugers to get the accuracy that Marlins have right out of the box. Of course, the expensive target model Ruger 22s shoot very well. I still think that Marlin offers the best 22 for the money, but like many, I just love the Ruger 10/22 for its feel and that great rotary magazine.
