It takes a bit of tinkering with gear to make it all work out, but hammocking can definitely be done in cold weather. The coldest I took my setup last season was mid to low 20's, but I'm hoping to get closer to 0 degrees this year. I've talked to some guys who have hammocked in the -20's.
