What kind of oil do you guys use? I'm thinking mineral oil would be best...

I use mineral oil on anything that is going to touch food, tufglide on everything else.

Mineral oil is a petroleum distillate... not good for food stuffs....you really should rethink that....

while there is a "food grade" mineral oil, it is not really a food stuff, but a certification that it is "safe" for consumption, meaning that if you eat it , you are not going to die...but is acts as a laxative, so you can guess the rest.... It is often used in wooden kitchen implements over vegetable oils because it is less likely to go rancid, or spoil... I wood rather use olive oil...but that is just me... your mileage may vary

you may be right, but the reality is that the amount of mineral oil that is actually going to be transferred to the food from the blade is insignificant. i dont know about you but after i wipe on a coat of oil (personally i use 3-in-1) i wipe it off. when you wipe it, not 100% is left on there but there is a very slight film.

using the mineral oil would be fine, i just think guys use it as an alternative that is non-toxic, as 3 in 1 is defnitely not something you'd wanna be ingesting.
