Yep... my point exactly.... why is there a need from the "experts" to challenge other opinions...

I will say that survival books and forums talk about and teach batoning as a technique for fire starting, etc.- so there must be some merit to it.

Well that seals it for me... (some) books on survival.... Gimme a break...I think your above comment it states it all..

noone here claims to be an "expert" nor does anyone claim to have the "right way" to do things.

People share their experiences, based on what they have done.

He merely said there might be some merit, far different from saying that whatever those authors may have said were to be followed, i dont know about you but i take everything with a grain of salt, not face value.

That is exactly right, different strokes for different folks, you need to re-evaluate the way you're interpreting some things because it seems youre blowing it a little bit out of proportion.

You may very well carry around an axe for long humps but im sure there's many here that might disagree, and it is that reason why splitting wood with a knife (which has been done a million times over with Bussekin forver) is something that everyone expects to be able to do with a knife of this size.

I can say from firsthand experience that taking an axe into the everglades is alot of un-necessary weight (for me). My knife was able to accomplish all tasks i needed it to, including splitting a stump to get to the resin soaked center. and guess what, it took it without much issue, and still split atoms afterwards.
