I like that the price is being kept low. However, unless I mis-read Dan's redesign posting, the reason that's possible is due to large military orders, which have driven the design. For that reason, it makes little sense to criticize aspects of that design, specifically the choice of going with a saber vs a full-height grind. Dan explained that it was a performance-driven decision, so that's why it is what it is.
My gut feeling is that the Regulator will feel more blade-heavy than I'd prefer. I thought/hoped that the choice to go with a saber ground blade would allow the blade to be slimmer/lighter, but that isn't the case. Also, I haven't actually held a Regulator, so I don't know that it's blade-heavy, but Dan's classification of the Regulator as a chopper is a fair indication that it is.
I'll likely get at least a couple, maybe even several. Whether or not I end up loving the Regulator, as an investment, I doubt I'd loose any money on them after they go out of production.
