Usage is the best way to keep it rust free I've noticed, but since I don't plan on using my YardHook for food prep, I used my weapon lubricant on the edge to keep it rust free. I use TW-25B weapon lube. It's a dry weapon lube made from PTFE, kinda like teflon, and it fills in the pores in the metal leaving a roller bearing smooth surface, and if I upkeep the coating from time time after using it, it's basically rustproof. I use it on every one of my firearms, and it even prevents corrosion from corrosive primers. I've noticed on my knives, it makes for a smoother cut as well.
