Yep, one side is soft(medium grit) and one side is hard(fine grit). Its a perfect all-in-one stone, you just need a strop. I actually have some benchstones from David(naturalwhetstones.com) arriving tomorrow. I'll post some thoughts on them tomorrow evening, I have a set of Smith's I can compare them to.
