Question - I understand what "steampunk" is (based upon the descriptions above), but I don't understand WHERE it is? Is this something people are actually wearing in CA...or is it like all other "high fashion" (reserved to run ways and photo shoots)?
Without some of the ostentatious accessories (the goggles for example) I like the general concept of period clothing. I always thought "Mina" looked awesome in "Francis Ford Coppola's
It's kinda like goth or cyberpunk. There are always some people that dress like this everyday, but mostly it is worn at conventions, club meetings, themed parties, or photoshoots. It's a fun genre if you grew up reading Jules Verne, H.G Wells, or watched the original Wild Wild West tv series. The League of Extrordinary Gentleman is an excellent recent depiction. There are starting to be a lot of books, comics, etc. with Steampunk as the central theme. Search Amazon for steampunk to see examples. Also the SyFy channel has Reise, web tv show on their site that is steampunk themed.
BTW - I'm not a steampunk participant, but I do enjoy the look and creativity of the people who do indulge.
