I'm guessing that it was a business decision and they decided to make more to supply a demand. Obviously any thing they do is going to make some happy and some unhappy. So they figured more would be happy than unhappy. Bottom line is they have to continue to make money in order to keep building the blades we all love. Every new model is a gamble and they don't really know how well it will do until it's out of the barn. So when you find a winner you need to run with it for a while.
I don't think they would be so near sighted as to make more and alienate the collector crowd. In business, integrity > short term profit
edit: perhaps a large order was canceled, but to actually make more to sell would feel like ... a violation to me. That's just my feeling though based on existing posts about the war dog's limited status.
Either way, the lack of communication from the shop is disturbing to me.
