It's a lot easier to maintain an edge once you get it profiled like you want it. I was using my Battle Rat earlier in the week to split logs for the fireplace at my Aunt's house. I split like a dozen logs that night. Some of them I kept splitting until they were kindling size. I tested my BR when I got home, and after all that splitting it was still shaving sharp.
