I was looking at the Chipmunks again, just for curiosity reasons. I looked over and see a Henry with fiber-optic sights, ss, and an orange stock. Right next to it is a Savage single shot that has a blue brl and action along with a synthetic stock and Accu-trigger.

Here is a description of the rifles:
Chipmunk: laminated stock, single shot, peep rear sight, short, round bolt knob, and blue. The action screw is a hex-head. Price was 169.00

Savage: black synthetic stock, single shot, peep rear sight, short, blue metal, round bolt know, uses a hex head action screw, and Accu-trigger. Price was 159.00

Henry: stainless metal, orange stocks, a bit larger stock, flat bolt handle, fiber-optic sights, and it used a slot head action screw. Price was like 229.00

My impression was I liked the Henry rifle with the orange stock, ss, and the fiber-optic sights but not for the amount of money over the other two rifle. The Chipmunk is nice, but the laminated wood stock did not feel very good, but what do you expect for a short kid rifle and and adult shouldering it. I was most impressed by the Savage for several reasons: Accu-trigger (different since it is on a kids rifle), synthetic stock, peep rear sight, round bolt knob, and feel in the shoulder.

When I get a little cash together that is not going in the 911 fund or to doctors and bills I think I will pick one of the Savages up and make a pack rifle out of it. About the only thing I will need do is paint the rifle with some rattle can paint, slot the action screw so I can use a coin or other slot tool, and figure something out for a case that will hold a box of shells.

BTW, those prices were in a local gun store so I am sure they can be beat on-line and those are MY Adult impressions of a kids gun that can pull double duty.
