The knife (Negrito Hunting Bolo) might well be 5160 steel, I have no idea. yes you could take the handle material off (water buffalo hide) but the tang is nothing more than a round rod, possibly welded onto the blade, or attached some way or other.

I had actually thought about getting it heat treated, but don't think I will. It has character and a history just the way it is. If I changed anything it would change the history (and pleasure/fun) behind it, at least for me.

SO she is gonna just stay the way she is.
