Thank you everyone, for the kind words.

My exposed spine sheath works great with this long knife, you only have to draw a little bit then the knife is free from the sheath.

I was asked long ago if I could make a sheath like my speed draw holsters and I came up with this design.

Years ago there were a few leather and nylon sheaths/holsters that were break out designs, but the extra material covering the spine of the blade would rub against the coating or satin finish of the blade. So I came up with this design.
my exposed spine and rubber retaining strap (which I make) allowed you to draw with little no resistance once the strap is undone thus protecting the finish a bit more.

The knife is very secure with the rubber strap secured, and I use pull the dot directional snaps so that the strap will not come undone accidentally.

The added benefit is that it shows off the JYD number <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> telling the world that you are a Junk Yard Dog <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
