I just spent a week away and was plain amazed not to have seen a snake, 'tis the season for them here but I suspect the eagles and hawks have been giving them a pretty hard time.

It is called a Puff Adder locally. Species Britis Arietans.

They are also know to bite through their own lower jaw to get to people when they are caught behind the head so real care needs to be taken with them.
The Black Mamba is our most aggressive snake.
